Nadia District is being run with 4 Sub-divisions under which 17 Panchayat Samitis and 187 Gram Panchayats. Number of seats in Gram Panchayat and those of Panchayat Samiti and Zilla Parishad respectively are as follows (Corrected upto 6th Panchayat Election 2003)

District Panchayat & Rural Development Office, Nadia is the Nodal Office of all the three tiers of Panchayati Raj Bodies. It supervises the inspection under section 205, Gram Sabha and Gram Sansads. Besides, the District Office has to monitor different schemes like NSAP with its three components (NOAPS, NMBS, NFBS) LALGI, PROFLAL, Collection of Tax, Training of the members of PR Bodies, Internal & Statutory Audits, Holding of Panchayat General & Bye-Elections and Block Panchayat administration etc.
